คณะกรรมการโอลิมปิกสากล (IOC) และคณะกรรมการโอลิมปิกและพาราลิมปิกแห่งซาอุดีอาระเบีย (SOPC) ประกาศความร่วมมือจัดการแข่งขันกีฬาโอลิมปิกอีสปอร์ตเป็นครั้งแรก โดยกำหนดจัดขึ้นที่กรุงริยาด ประเทศซาอุดีอาระเบีย ในปี 2027
การแข่งขันครั้งนี้จะเริ่มต้นอย่างเป็นทางการในปี 2025 โดยมี Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF) ซึ่งเป็นองค์กรไม่แสวงหาผลกำไร เป็นพันธมิตรหลักในการพัฒนาโครงสร้างการแข่งขัน คัดเลือกเกม และยกระดับอีสปอร์ตให้สอดคล้องกับมาตรฐานกีฬาระดับโลก
โครงการนี้ได้รับการสนับสนุนจาก มกุฎราชกุมารและนายกรัฐมนตรีแห่งซาอุดีอาระเบีย HRH Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud พร้อมด้วย Thomas Bach ประธาน IOC และ HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal ประธาน SOPC และรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงกีฬา
เพื่อขับเคลื่อนโครงการนี้ คณะกรรมการร่วมระหว่าง IOC และ SOPC ได้ถูกจัดตั้งขึ้น โดยมี Ser Miang Ng สมาชิก IOC และ HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal เป็นประธานร่วม และอยู่ระหว่างการพิจารณาคัดเลือกเกมที่จะใช้ในการแข่งขันโอลิมปิกอีสปอร์ตครั้งแรก
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Saudi Olympic & Paralympic Committee (SOPC) have announced their collaboration to host the first-ever Olympic Esports Games, set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2027.
The official launch of the event is scheduled for 2025, with the Esports World Cup Foundation (EWCF), a non-profit organization, serving as the primary partner in developing the competition framework, selecting games, and elevating esports to align with global sports standards.
This initiative is backed by HRH Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, along with IOC President Thomas Bach and HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal, President of SOPC and Minister of Sports.
To drive the project forward, a joint committee between the IOC and SOPC has been established, chaired by IOC Member Ser Miang Ng and co-chaired by HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal. The committee is currently in the process of selecting the games that will be featured in the inaugural Olympic Esports Games.
